St. Louis Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman (knee) is considering a return to the team if they advance to the World Series. "If we made it to the World Series, there may be a possibility," said Berkman, the 36-year-old who was limited to 32 games this season by a knee injury. "I don't even know if they would even run me out there, though, because I haven't been playing, but, you know, physically I'm starting to feel better." Berkman took swings in a workout Tuesday, Oct. 16, and also did some light running.


Second Baseman

Detroit Tigers 2B Omar Infante (thumb) injured his right thumb in the ninth inning of Game 3 of the ALCS Tuesday, Oct. 16. X-rays were negative.

New York Yankees 2B Robinson Cano snapped an 0-for-29 drought with a hard single to left field in the top of the ninth inning in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers.

2B | Marco Scutaro | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (hip) has a "good chance" to play in Game 3 of the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, Oct. 17. Scutaro said he's "doing fine."


Shortstop

SS | Eduardo Nunez | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees INF Eduardo Nunez's homer in the ninth inning of Game 3 of the American League Championship Series snapped a scoreless streak by Detroit starters of 30 1/3 innings. That's a record for a single postseason, according to STATS LLC. The previous mark of 29 innings was set by Oakland in 1974.

SS | Brandon Crawford | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants OF Brandon Belt, OF Gregor Blanco and SS Brandon Crawford were 6-for-23 with five RBIs and six runs scored during the first two games of the National League Championship Series. The three hit 6-7-8 in order during Game 2 of the NLCS.


Third Baseman

Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera put himself in record territory on a pair of streaks with his third-inning walk and fifth-inning double Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. His 16-game LCS hitting streak, a run that dates to the Miami Marlins' victory in the 2003 National League Championship Series over the Chicago Cubs, is now the longest in Major League Baseball history. Cabrera has reached base safely in all 19 of his postseason games with the Tigers, which pushes him past Hank Greenberg for the longest streak in franchise history. He is tied with Greenberg with seven doubles, second in franchise history. Cabrera also has 11 career postseason extra-base hits as a member of the Tigers, which trails only Greenberg's 14 for the most.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez and OF Nick Swisher are not in the starting lineup for Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, Oct. 16. OF Brett Gardner is leading off and playing left field, with 3B Eric Chavez starting at third base and SS Eduardo Nunez playing shortstop. Chavez is 9-for-25 (.360) with a home run off Game 3 SP Justin Verlander, while Rodriguez is 8-for-30 (.267) against him. However, Rodriguez has three home runs. Gardner is 5-for-11 in his career off Verlander, while Swisher is 11-for-61 with three home runs.

New York Yankees C Russell Martin (thumb) suffered an injury to his right thumb in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers, and he required medical assistance from the trainer. However, he was able to stay in and finish the game.

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves C Brian McCann (shoulder) had a slightly larger tear to the labrum than his MRI shown. The larger tear was discovered during surgery Tuesday, Oct. 16. He faces six months of rehab.

Baltimore Orioles P Dana Eveland and C Ronny Paulino refused their minor league assignments, making them both free agents.


Outfielder

OF | Delmon Young | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers OF Delmon Young connected for a solo home run in the fourth inning in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series Tuesday, Oct. 16. Young extends his franchise playoff record with seven home runs. Five have come against the Yankees, which is tied for fourth-most postseason homers by a Yankees' opponents.

OF | Carlos Quentin | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin (knee) is ready to work his tail off this offseason in order to get his knee completely healthy for the 2013 season. Quentin underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee two days after the regular season ended, but it won't prevent him from doing offseason workouts. "Some of it will be training, some rest and some weight loss," Quentin said of the plan that he's set up with the help of the Padres. "It will all be geared to staying on the field. I liked my weight when I came in. But when you have a surgery, especially with your lower half, you can't do the extra work you want to do. I had to limit that greatly."

Starting Pitcher

He struck out three batters in the impressive 132-pitch quality start. The homer allowed in the ninth inning was the first of his career.

Former Detroit Tigers SP Denny McLain believes CL Jose Valverde has a crisis of confidence that is affecting his delivery. "I think that is what it boils down to. He doesn't have that take-no-hostage mentality. He is just trying to get through the inning rather than get people out. There is a big difference. If he is not being an aggressive offensive pitcher then he is going to have more problems," McLain said.

RP | Boone Logan | New York Yankees | Fantasy,
