There is no timetable for his return, but general manager Brian Cashman said it could be the end of next week. Teixeira plans on hitting in the cages Thursday, Sept. 20, and he'll try to do work on the field this weekend. His calf remains swollen and sore.

Two days in a row is good for him." INF Marwin Gonzalez (ankle) started at shortstop Thursday, his first action since hurting his left ankle Aug. 30.

San Diego Padres 2B Logan Forsythe will not play winter ball this offseason, preferring instead to focus on a "healthy offseason." The Padres want to see if they can use Forsythe at shortstop, along with second and third base. Forsythe is expected to make the team as a utility man next year.

The Chicago White Sox don't plan on picking up SP Jake Peavy's $22 million option for the 2013 season, which would make him a free agent. The White Sox can buy him out for only $4 million and try to re-sign him at a cheaper rate. Peavy has said he would like to return to the team.

Cleveland Indians SP Zach McAllister may be showing some signs of fatigue as the season reaches its final weeks. "It's very late in the season," manager Manny Acta said. "He could be fatigued. McAllister has thrown a career-high 176 innings between the minors and majors this season, and he likely has two starts remaining. He's gone 1-6 with a 5.72 ERA in his last 10 starts (50 1/3 innings) compared to 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA in his first 10 starts.

Boston Red Sox RP Scott Atchison (elbow) has been pitching with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow but has come back strong through rest and rehab. He's retired six of the seven hitters he's faced since coming off the disabled list. Atchison is hitting 90-91 mph with his fastball, which is normal for him.

RP | Frank Francisco | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) remains unavailable Thursday, Sept. 20, with elbow tendonitis. "With his past elbow issues, when he says he's ready, we'll probably give him one more anyway," manager Terry Collins said. Francisco expects to be pitching again soon.

Texas Rangers RP Joe Nathan returned to duty Wednesday, Sept. 19, after five days of rest following a period where he complained of having a dead arm. He tossed only 10 pitches in the outing, eight of them being fastballs. Nathan hit 95 mph twice and averaged 94 mph after averaging only 93.2 mph in his previous outing.

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he'd like to refrain from using RPs Phil Coke and Brayan Villarreal again Thursday, Sept. 20. Also, RP Joaquin Benoit will not be available.

RP | Scott Elbert | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury,
Los Angeles Dodgers RP Scott Elbert (elbow) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow Thursday, Sept. 20. The surgery to clean out scar tissue at the back of his elbow was successful, and he can resume throwing in six to eight weeks. Elbert went 1-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 43 games (32 2/3 innings) in relief.
