It is uncertain if the Toronto Blue Jays will bring 1B Adam Lind back next season. If he does return, he may be better suited in a platoon role, as he has struggled against left-handed pitching. Lind is batting just .181 with a .488 OPS against lefties, and just .218 with a .602 OPS in his career against southpaws.

Morse said surgery isn't an option nor is any kind of pain-killing injection. He will take medication and wear a small, removable cast on his left hand. "It was just tough hitting," Morse said. "It was tough swinging. I'd rather try to get 100 percent going into this next little stretch we're going to have." He could take batting practice as early as Friday, Sept. 14.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran is sitting the bench Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the midst of a bad slump at the plate. 1B Matt Carpenter (hands) is back in the lineup replacing Beltran for the first time since suffering lacerations on his hands after his bat snapped over the weekend. Carpenter needed stitches on both his hands. Beltran is hitting .199 since July 1 and has looked bad against breaking balls lately. Manager Mike Matheny is considering dropping Beltran in the order.

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said he will likely continue to play the matchups in the ninth inning between RPs Jonathan Broxton, Sean Marshall, J.J. Hoover and Jose Arredondo with RP Aroldis Chapman resting for a few days. "(Broxton) is the No. 1 candidate. But it's matchups, too," Baker said. "If they have three lefties, it could be (Sean) Marshall. It could be Broxton, it could be (Jose) Arredondo, it could be (J.J.) Hoover. Broxton is the No. 1 choice. We try to limit Broxton to two days in a row, too."
