He played five innings and will play seven innings as the designated hitter Thursday, Aug. 30. "I have felt good playing short. But before I can say I am ready for the big leagues, I need to play nine innings," said Tulowitzki, who's not expected to join the Rockies until after Sept. 1. "I am not running the bases how I would like yet." 1B Jason Giambi (illness) went 1-for-3 in the same rehab game.

1B | Joey Votto | Cincinnati Reds | Injury, Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (knee) went 1-for-2 with a walk in his second rehab game with Single-A Dayton Wednesday, Aug. 29, but he said he wasn't running full speed on his surgically repaired left knee. He could be activated as soon as Saturday, Sept. 1, if he doesn't have any setbacks. Votto played in five innings Wednesday. "Anybody that's had a surgery knows the swelling part of it takes time, and I'm learning that firsthand right now," Votto said. "It's slow. It's taking longer than I had hoped."

OF Sam Fuld, who underwent a similar surgery is totally happy with how his wrist turned out, and he said he healed quicker than his timetable. "I think the main thing is that we all heard great things about Dr. Graham in Cleveland and that he's the hand-wrist guru and his success rate, I think, is off the charts," Fuld said.

Minnesota Twins OF Denard Span (shoulder) is eligible to return from the disabled list Sept. 12, but he was told his injury won't heal until the offseason. He won't rule out the chance that he won't play again this year. "We'll see (on Sept. 12), depending on how it feels," Span said. "Hopefully these next 10 days it'll heal enough to where I can finish the season off and start that healing process again during the offseason."

He had bone chips removed from his knee Monday, Aug. 27, but doctors also found an issue with the cartilage under his kneecap. Benson is expected to be ready for spring training.

OFs Casper Wells and Carlos Peguero, INF Alex Liddi, RP Shawn Kelley and SPs Erasmo Ramirez and Hector Noesi are all options to return, too. SP Danny Hultzen has been struggling with Tacoma, so it's unknown if he is a candidate for a promotion.

The Colorado Rockies will continue to use a form of the four-man rotation next season, according to general manager Dan O'Dowd. Four starters would be on a 75-pitch count and four "hybrid" pitchers would be on roster that would be trained starters limited to 50 pitches. SPs Jorge De La Rosa, Jhoulys Chacin, Jeff Francis and Drew Pomeranz could be the four starters next year, followed by Ps Tyler Chatwood, Alex White, Juan Nicasio and Christian Friedrich as the piggyback pitchers. The Rockies have pitched better this year since making the change; before the switch the starters were 13-20 with a 6.28 ERA and after the switch they are 11-26 with a 5.61 ERA in 64 games.

Washington Nationals RP Drew Storen is starting to find his groove, and he's physically feeling the best he has all season, meaning he could help ease the workload of RP Tyler Clippard in the late innings. "This is not diminishing how good I like Drew. It's just that I got another guy that is doing a great job, too. There may be a couple back-to-back situations for Clip and I like the way the lineup comes up for Drew. His tongue may not be hanging out when I let Storen close for me," Johnson said. Johnson clearly still views Clippard as the team's closer. Clippard has thrown in 60 games, which is tied for the 16th most among relievers this year.
