KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Player Prospecting series highlights the exploits of minor league baseball players, including top MLB prospects. Find out who'll make an impact, whether it's in your rotisserie or head-to-head baseball game next week or in your fantasy baseball keeper league two years from now.
After making a strong impression in the Midwest League in 2011, the 21-year-old put up adequate numbers in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League by batting .263 with six home runs, 35 RBIs, 41 runs scored, 10 steals and an .800 OPS in 266 at-bats.
Marisnick, who last year finished second in the Midwest League with a .320 average, saw his batting average plummet this year in large part due to a drop in BABIP from .371 in 2011 to .309 to 2012.
Looking deeper into the numbers, his strikeout rate (18.0 percent) and walk rate (8.5 percent) are essentially the same as his whiff rate (17.4 percent) and walk rate (8.2 percent) from last season.
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound center fielder also hit for admirable extra-base power with 18 doubles and seven triples to go along with his six dingers. Marisnick's .188 ISO at Dunedin is actually higher than the mark he posted with Lansing (.180) in 2011.
At first glance, Marisnick's performance at Dunedin looks rather disappointing, but he's definitely still on the right track. He may turn out to be a well-rounded regular who can contribute in many ways in fantasy baseball.
