2012 NFL Draft - Pick 61: LaMichael James, RB, San Francisco 49ers

by Cory J. Bonini on April 27, 2012 @ 18:15:45 PDT

The San Francisco 49ers selected Oregon running back LaMichael James with the 61st pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Brian Quick, WR, St. Louis Rams

Fantasy analysis: Talk about a surprise pick ... James joins a very crowded backfield, but it won't be surprising to see someone released. Anthony Dixon is probably the first to go. Kendall Hunter is likely to be hurt the most by this addition, and Frank Gore's touches should be reduced even more.

The Niners could have a powerhouse offense in 2012. Their passing game has opened up with several additions, and now their backfield has another legitimate home run threat. While Hunter had that potential, James takes it to a new level.

Fantasy footballers should let this play out a little bit before making any rash decisions, but James deserves a spot on 2012 rosters. He is, at this point, a late-round flier, especially in point-per-reception leagues. His long-term value is potentially out of this world, depending how the backfield shakes out this season.
