The New England Patriots selected Alabama outside linebacker Dont'a Hightower with the 25th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.

New England Patriots LB Dont'a Hightower
Hightower will make plays for Pats

Fantasy Analysis: The Pats made quick work to trade up twice, the second time landing Hightower, a talented player who has the kind of intangibles that Bill Belichick appreciates. Although he's not the fastest linebacker on the field, he's a solid pass rusher and a good tackler.

In New England, Hightower should line up alongside Jerod Mayo, but considering the Patriots' need to address its pass rush, the rookie could play outside some too. The Patriots are accustomed to developing their linebackers as versatile playmakers, so it'll be interesting to see if that's their vision for Hightower.

Considering the kind of tackle numbers that performing 'backers can pile up in this defense, Hightower should be on IDP radars. How quickly he adapts to the role Belichick designs for him will be important, however. He could prove to be a decent late-round gamble or waiver pickup.
