The Houston Texans selected Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus with the 26th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Fantasy analysis: At 6-foot-3, 261 pounds, Mercilus will be asked to move to outside linebacker for the Texans. They need depth at the position after losing Mario Williams in free agency, but this selection is questionable. Mercilus may struggle in space and doesn't have the natural athleticism to play anything more than a situation edge-rushing role.
Houston's D is in good shape to be a solid fantasy unit in 2012. Mercilus shouldn't be viewed as a draftable IDP commodity this year.
