The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Alabama strong safety Mark Barron with the seventh overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Analysis: The Bucs were willing to trade down because they figured, correctly, that they could still get someone who would help to upgrade their secondary. They did with the young man who's easily the best safety in this draft. Barron is an intelligent player who makes up for a lack of track speed with so many other plus qualities. He plays the pass well but will also assist in run support and could be a constant for a decade. That goes for IDP fantasy football players, too. The eagerness for some owners to reach for young, exciting players might turn him into a relatively overvalued commodity on draft day, but he should provide solid fantasy points in a variety of ways, even as a rookie.
