The Dallas Cowboys selected LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne with the fifth overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Fantasy analysis: Claiborne immediately upgrades Dallas' secondary and provides personnel flexibility for the Cowboys. He can play inside and outside, with his best skills coming in press-man coverage. Dallas landed the best cornerback prospect in the draft class, and Claiborne's ball skills are elite.
Dallas added cornerback Chris Carr in the offseason as their prized free-agent signing. The duo gives the Cowboys a bright future in the defensive backfield, especially if they choose to retain Mike Jenkins.
Fantasy owners should be pleased with this selection, because Dallas' pass rush now has an elite set of hands to make plays on the ball. Consider this group a midrange No. 1 fantasy D in 2012. IDP owners should avoid Claiborne since he doesn't make enough plays in run support to matter much for standard fantasy scoring.
