Second Baseman

2B | Chris Getz | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals 2B Chris Getz is unlikely to get a chance in the second spot of manager Ned Yost's lineup, as that would give the team three straight left-handed hitters with OF Alex Gordon (third) and 1B Eric Hosmer (fourth).

The Kansas City Royals have optioned 2B Johnny Giavotella to Triple-A Omaha, meaning that the parent club will use a platoon of Yuniesky Betancourt and Chris Getz at second base. "Johnny is a much better defender today than he was at this time last year, but we had two better defensive options in Betancourt and Getz." Betancourt will also serve as the team's primary backup option at shortstop and third base.

Giavotella's demotion means that OF Lorenzo Cain could become the No. 2 hitter in the batting order, because placing Getz in that role would give the Royals three consecutive left-handed hitters at the top of their lineup, between OF Alex Gordon and 1B Eric Hosmer.

That's not the only prerequisite or factor that would be considered in who'll hit second. There's nothing that's imminent to say that this is where we're going to be come Opening Day, but I think we just want to give it a little bit more opportunity here in camp."
