2012 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska

by Cory J. Bonini on March 15, 2012 @ 17:04:38 PDT

Nebraska senior defensive tackle Jared Crick enters the 2012 NFL Draft with some question marks about his game and durability, but he has shown enough to warrant an early-to-midround selection.

Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska
Blue collar versatility

  • Adequate size (6-foot-4, 279 pounds)
  • Versatility - should be able to play five- and three-technique
  • Instinctual against the run
  • Strong, large hands (10 1/8 inches)
  • Sure tackler - strength to drive and technique for wrap-up ability
  • Understands his assignments, especially in staying home against mobile quarterbacks or cutback runners
  • High motor, blue collar player with hustle
  • Awareness to clog passing lanes (32-inch arms)

  • Injury concerns (elbow in 2010; knee, torn pectoral in 2011)
  • Lacks strength to beat double-teams
  • Limited mobility
  • Not very explosive - first step is unimpressive, at best
  • Very limited pass-rushing repertoire and skill set

Expected draft placement

Crick probably won't wow anyone at the next level, but he brings intensity and sound play as a 4-3 defensive tackle or a 3-4 end, where he may be more likely to play in the NFL.

Teams that could be most interested in him include the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers
