Dallas Clark immediately improves free-agent tight end class

The Indianapolis Colts continued to purge their roster Friday, cutting tight end Dallas Clark, running back Joseph Addai, safety Melvin Bullitt and quarterback Curtis Painter (shocker).

All four will immediately hit the free-agent market, adding more depth and talent to an ever-growing list of players. By the way, you can access all of this year's free-agent class in KFFL's NFL free-agent tracker.

Clark, 32, is the most intriguing of the options when I look at the landscape of free-agent tight ends. With Jermichael Finley re-upping with the Green Bay Packers already, the tight ends available on the free-agent market, for the most part, are quite average. If Clark can stay healthy, he can quickly change that and become a solid option in fantasy football circles once again provided he lands in the right place.

His past two years have been riddled with injuries, and it's tough to criticize his 34-catch season last year. When you consider he was only able to play in 11 games and the poor play out of the quarterback position during that time, I'm willing to chalk that up to not in Clark's control.

Clark is just two seasons removed from a 100-catch, 1,106-yard and 10-touchdown season. At 6-foot-3 and 252 pounds, he has solid size and could be an immediate upgrade to plenty of offenses around the NFL.

Will he follow free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning? We've heard plenty of speculation of the likes of wide receiver Reggie Wayne and center Jeff Saturday trying to catch on where Manning does; there is a strong chance Clark's name falls in that bucket, too.

Either way, fantasy football players will want to watch his status closely. In the right situation and with health hopefully on his side, Clark could emerge once again as a top-10 fantasy tight end in 2012.
