Building your core around the wrong fantasy baseball players can lose your league. Many players coming off a big season often wind up as fantasy baseball busts or overvalued players. Who should you avoid in your fantasy baseball drafts this season?

Busts

Dee Gordon, Los Angeles Dodgers

You mean the Michael Bourn of shortstops? And we're not talking last year's version that finally offered a stellar batting average along with speed. This harkens back to the Bourn that you knew would cripple your clip, but you bought the swipes while dealing with the surrounding consequences.

Sure, Gordon could swipe 70 bags in a full season - that makes him a worthwhile pick if you plan it correctly. Sadly, that tired but telling adage about the law against stealing first applies: Swiftness often helps on in-play swats, but how often will he put wood on rawhide?

He hasn't been a walk fiend. His 5-foot-11, 15-pou-- errr, 150-pound physique holds almost no power and reeks of being overmatched during a full season of work. And how much thump will this Dodgers offense have besides Matt Kemp and, possibly, Andre Ethier? Gordon, 24 in April, isn't immune to another stint at Triple-A, despite LA insisting the job is his.

The perceived rapid drop-off at the position has caused early clamoring to target Gordon as a starter. His feet should be a complementary piece to your mixed squad, not a focus, and Gordon's other offensive components could keep him from spending a full season in the bigs. -TH
