1) Jonny Venters, RP, Atlanta Braves

Team: Steve Gardner, USA TODAY/Sports Weekly | Roster

This pick was partially an insurance policy for Craig Kimbrel, but Venters is a pretty good pitcher in his own right. Although he wore down a bit in September, he still finished with a 1.84 ERA and 1.09 WHIP – and 96 K in 88 innings. If I don't like a particular starter's matchups in a given week, I won't hesitate to plug Venters into my starting lineup.

2) Daniel Murphy, 1B/2B/3B, New York Mets

Team: Ray Flowers, Baseball Guys/SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio | Roster

To get a guy who could hit .300 while qualifying at first, second and third... sign me up. Big fan of a reserve pick who covers so many positions.

3) Chad Billingsley, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers

Team: Joe Hamrahi, Baseball Prospectus | Roster

Billingsley struggled a bit down the stretch last season but still managed to win 11 games and fan 152 in 188 innings. His ability to miss bats still makes him an intriguing selection, and pitching in the paradise known as Dodger Stadium only enhances his value.

4) J.D. Martinez, OF, Houston Astros

Team: Pasko Varnica, Mastersball | Roster

Not certain of how many AB my DH Mike Trumbo will get, so for the second bench player I took a replacement. In my opinion, J.D. Martinez has the potential to perform well beyond the current expectations.

5) Jon Jay, OF, St. Louis Cardinals

Team: Howard Bender, FanGraphs | Roster

He was recently endorsed by the Cards' GM for full-time duty in center. Power and speed may be lacking, but good on-base skills and low strikeouts will help with runs scored and batting average.

6) Eric Young Jr., OF, Colorado Rockies

Team: Mark Chamberlin, Baseball Sharks | Roster

He's more likely to be cut before mid-April than starting on my team in May, but the speed upside is just too great to ignore. I don't think he will get an opportunity in Colorado, although a hot spring or an injury could change that; an injury on another team may open up a trade.

7) Phil Hughes, SP, New York Yankees

Team: Nicholas Minnix, KFFL | Roster

Last spring, he was in terrible shape when he reported to camp; this spring, the opposite. Will it pay dividends like it did in 2010? I'd like to find out. Starting pitchers are most fun to gamble on in late rounds, for me; they present a great potential profit margin.

8) Ramon Hernandez, C, Colorado Rockies

Team: Bill Macey, Baseball HQ | Roster

I waited too long to take my second catcher, leaving me Hernandez as the best of the mediocre options remaining. He doesn't strike out much, so I expect that he'll benefit from Coors Field where good things can happen when the ball is put into play.

9) Nolan Reimold, OF, Baltimore Orioles

Team: Josh Shepardson, The Hardball Times | Roster

Martinez under the radar

I was disappointed to see J.D. Martinez selected before my pick. Turned my attention to Reimold, who quietly hit for power after an ugly Class AAA stint. He'll get lots of playing time, and that's a big deal in a league like this.

10) Brad Peacock, SP, Oakland Athletics

Team: Doug Anderson, RotoExperts | Roster

I don't understand why he's not getting a little more love. The wins may be few and far between, but he's going to provide decent strikeouts and his home park will negate some of the growing pains.

11) Jeff Niemann, SP, Tampa Bay Rays

Team: Tim Heaney, KFFL | Roster

One of the most overlooked pitching developments last season was Niemann's midseason breakthrough in K/9 and BB/9 after returning from a lower back strain. I'm betting he'll stick in the Rays' rotation. If he's traded, he could land in a better division. If he's bumped, he's an easy drop, but I'll have my eye on him during the season.

12) Vance Worley, SP, Philadelphia Phillies

Team: Jeff Paur, RTSports | Roster

I was just looking to add some depth to my pitching staff and felt Worley was the player with the most potential at this point. I like to target players with upside/potential at the end of my drafts. You can go with veterans that have limited upside (i.e. Kyle Lohse), but I think you can get a guy like that off waivers, so why not take a chance on a guy like Worley?
