1) Kyle Farnsworth, RP, Tampa Bay Rays

Team: Jeff Paur, RTSports | Roster

This was a need pick that I wasn't too happy about having to make. Farnsworth is far from exciting and might not even have the closer's job all season. But he performed well last season and opens the season as the starter this year for a solid Rays team. If all goes well, he can get me 30 to 35 saves, which will make me happy. Chris Perez was my other consideration here, but I went with Farnsworth because I like his strikeout rate better and his save potential is higher on a better team.

2) Russell Martin, C, New York Yankees

Team: Tim Heaney, KFFL | Roster

About time for me to call out a catcher. Martin's HR total was inflated last season, but he'll still sit in double digits. Without New York having to squeeze Jesus Montero behind the plate, Martin should see a similarly large workload in one of the league's optimal offenses.

3) Melky Cabrera, OF, San Francisco Giants

Team: Doug Anderson, RotoExperts | Roster

If he can even come close to matching last year's numbers, he's a huge bargain in Round 18; five categories of "pretty darn good."

4) Derek Holland, SP, Texas Rangers

Team: Josh Shepardson, The Hardball Times | Roster

The Verducci effect concerns are reduced by the fact Holland is my fifth starter. Gains in ground-ball rate and control, plus offensive support of Rangers lineup sold me on Holland here. Dominant at times in the summer.

5) Austin Jackson, OF, Detroit Tigers

Team: Bill Macey, Baseball HQ | Roster

I am in need of some stolen bases and our metrics at BaseballHQ.com have Jackson as one of the very fastest players in the game. Even if that doesn't translate into the SB upside I crave, he's still going to score plenty of runs atop a powerful Tigers lineup.

6) Colby Rasmus, OF, Toronto Blue Jays

Team: Nicholas Minnix, KFFL | Roster

I'm not terribly confident that Rasmus will recover his MLB-quality performance, at least right away. But, I can't ignore his talent, and again, outfield is where I've given myself a big opportunity to take chances - without risk. What a payoff, if it works out, no?

7) Roy Oswalt, SP, Free Agent

Team: Mark Chamberlin, Baseball Sharks | Roster

This was supposed to be Chris Sale's spot, but this being an expert league, my plan was blown to pieces two rounds earlier. Oswalt was the last one remaining on my No. 4 pitcher's list, so I can't be too disappointed. He's without a team, but he's safe.

8) Angel Pagan, OF, San Francisco Giants

Team: Howard Bender, FanGraphs | Roster

Solid option as a No. 5 outfielder. He's the best option to hit leadoff in San Francisco and will run as often as Bruce Bochy lets him. Should be another 30 SB to add on to my team's total.

9) Justin Masterson, SP, Cleveland Indians

Team: Pasko Varnica, Mastersball | Roster

The great unknown

I rate Justin Masterson close to Jamie Garcia, who I picked 24 players earlier. So it was a surprise to find Masterson and his projected 14 wins still available.

10) Chris Perez, RP, Cleveland Indians

Team: Joe Hamrahi, Baseball Prospectus | Roster

Every year I find myself struggling to pick up saves. I finally decided 2012 would be different. Chris Perez is the third closer I selected, and while his peripheral numbers are a slight cause for concern, the Indians reliever is still well positioned to accumulate 30-plus saves.

11) Frank Francisco, RP, New York Mets

Team: Ray Flowers, Baseball Guys/SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio | Roster

He has a great arm and an opportunity to close with the Mets. Could have gone OF here, but I really needed to get that second closer arm.

12) Salvador Perez, C, Kansas City Royals

Team: Steve Gardner, USA TODAY/Sports Weekly | Roster

I'll usually wait until the last few rounds to start searching for a second catcher, but one with solid contact skills who won't hurt my batting average and will play mostly every day was too good to pass up at this spot. His .331 average in '11 was driven by a .362 BABIP, so he's not likely to duplicate that. But a .280 mark isn't too much to ask.
