Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Mark Trumbo (foot) is willing to get an early start on learning how to play third base. "If I'm physically able, I'll be out there at 4:15 in the morning if that's what it takes," Trumbo said. "In all honesty, I'll field thousands of grounds balls a day if that's going to give me a better chance to make the transition and help the team." The team had hoped Trumbo could work start working out with coach Rob Picciolo during the offseason, but the stress fracture in Trumbo's right foot hobbled him in September, and has been slow to heal. He only recently was cleared to begin baseball activities as part of his workouts.

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland (wrist) might be close to full strength heading into spring training, as he appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery after surgery on his right wrist at the end of November. Originally he was expected to need eight to 12 weeks of recovery time. Moreland is hitting four times per week with hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh and doing all of his conditioning. "Going into spring training, I'll be in some kind of routine, but I don't think there will be many limitations," Moreland said Tuesday, Feb. 7.

"We really haven't had a chance to talk with them. Hopefully in the next few weeks, it's something we can address." To Jocketty's knowledge, Phillips and his representatives have not set a dealing for talks ending before the season starts.
