2012 NFL Mock Draft preview

February 2, 2012

I am working on my first mock draft of the 2012 NFL Draft season, and here is a teaser before the full first round is released Monday after the Super Bowl.

Everyone has their own take on how teams will draft, and it is still so early in the process that, as with any mock draft, plenty of changes will be in store in the coming weeks to months, so be sure to check back. Based on the players available and team needs, I have made my best educated choices for the top five teams in today's release.

Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
A stud that can be relied on when it counts

Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck
QB
Stanford It is the worst kept secret in the NFL ... Indy will take Luck, and there really is not another player they would consider here. Luck is the best prospect in the draft, and he just so happens to fill the biggest need the Colts have at the moment. Regardless of what happens with Peyton Manning (neck), the selection of Luck gives Colts fans optimism for a very bright future in Indianapolis.
2
St. Louis Rams Justin Blackmon
WR
Oklahoma State Sam Bradford needs a go-to target, and Brandon Lloyd is an unrestricted free agent who could follow Josh McDaniels to the New England Patriots this offseason. Matt Kalil and Morris Claiborne are possibilities.
3
Minnesota Vikings Matt Kalil
OT
USC Minnesota needs to shore up their offensive line, and even though there is talk about them trading down, Kalil fills a need as the best available offensive tackle in the draft. Cornerback help and a stud wide receiver are high on the Vikes' wish list, too, but it all starts upfront with protecting Christian Ponder.
4
Cleveland Browns Trent Richardson
RB
Alabama This pick will draw the ire of some, as many folks have penned Robert Griffin III's name in this slot. The Browns are a mess at running back and may be more committed to Colt McCoy than people realize. RG3 would have to learn a West Coast offense and transition from a spread attack in college. Richardson is the type of back that Cleveland can ride deep into the year.
5
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Morris Claiborne
CB
LSU Tampa Bay desperately needs cornerback help, and adding yet another young piece to the puzzle is a great place to start. Claiborne is the top corner in this year's class and is an immediate starter if Ronde Barber doesn't return.

Let me know where I am way off or what you would do differently.

The Vikings should pick up the CB from LSU as there Number 1 pick I want to see a great bunch of CB like Ronnie Lott playing in the Vikings Secondary shutting down receivers so the Vikings Front DL can shut down the Run then maybe they can win a Super Bowl. God Willing.

I honestly think that NFL teams should look at kellen moore with alot more regard, he has confidense in the pocket under pressure, a cannon, and hes a natural leader. Hes gold for any program, hopefully the bears!!
