Who's your No. 1 fantasy baseball pick?

January 11, 2012

Kemp, or the field?

Congrats to KFFL Baseball buddy Scott Gilroy for his correct guess of Justin Smoak in our final Guess The Sleeper contest. (Follow Scott. He knows his stuff.)

But ... enough with the games. Let's do this.

I've procured the No. 2 selection in the Fantasy Sports Trade Association's MLB experts draft, my first real deal of 2012, next Monday night at The Mirage in Las Vegas at the annual FSTA conference!

I'm in a fight with 12 big-named squads - a lot more pairs than usual, think more competitors are starting to emulate defending champion Ray Flowers (Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio), who had co-host Kay Adams with him at last year's table.

In a drawing for the opportunity to pick your draft slot, I came out second in line. Following suit, I took the second pick, as the top selection was taken. Many are afraid to draft near the top this year; I usually prefer the back end of the first snake stanza. But there are several stable options near the top, and I'm changing up my usual approach to nab one of them.

The holder of the top pick and one of the top competitors for last year's title, Anthony Perri of Fantistics, hinted he's debating between Troy Tulowitzki, Matt Kemp and one other commodity, but ... let's just say his leadoff strategy probably won't affect mine.

If you've read on my draft theory, you'll know why. If you'd like to know where I stand, Tweet me. Heck, if you'll be in Vegas, let's meet up!

With Perri producing some sizzle with the mystery heading into this pick 'em party, I'll do some crowdsourcing. I'm limiting this query to the five who've garnered a top pick in Mock Draft Central's figures from their last 262 drafts, per today's report.
