Players to watch during Senior Bowl
January 26, 2012
|
The Senior Bowl week is in full swing, and a few key prospects need to have strong showings to help ease doubts about whether they belong in the pros. Some players have already done just that, and a few will need to carry over any potentially strong outings to the NFL Scouting Combine. Boise state quarterback Kellen Moore has to overcome questions about his 5-foot-11 frame and his average arm strength. He has to display the ability to find passing windows and put the ball on point when throwing deep outs. Unfortunately, his biggest enemy is the assumptions made about a sub-6-foot passer entering the NFL.
Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden had a strong with by exhibiting his accuracy and arm strength. He has reportedly improved his draft stock and should be a solid second day pick just from the week of practice alone. Weeden believes his advanced rookie age of 28 is an asset, but it surely will cause him to be scratched from some boards. DeVier Posey, a wideout from Ohio State, has a fantastic size-speed combination at 6-foot-1, 209 pounds and a mid-4.45 projected 40 time. He has strong hands and comes out of his breaks quickly. Posey can play on the outside as well as in the slot and showed the ability to beat press-man jams He needs a big game from him at the week's conclusion after being suspended for all but three games in 2011. Michigan State passer Kirk Cousins checks in at 6-foot-2 but only 209 pounds and will have durability concerns attached to him. He has good footwork, an accurate touch pass and sound mechanics. Cousins has been a busy guy, meeting with teams around the clock. Louisiana Tech running back Lennon Creer needs a strong game to cap off a good week of practice. He has plenty of size at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds and showed surprisingly good quickness to the edge this week. Also working in his favor, he demonstrated route-running ability and soft hands. Be sure to check back after the Senior Bowl weekend for an in-depth recap of the game. Check out these other blogs....
