First Baseman

1B | Ike Davis | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 1B Ike Davis (ankle) said Tuesday, Jan. 10, that he is "good to go" for spring training, as he is fully recovered from a left ankle injury which cost him most of the 2011 season. He has been working out three to four times a week since Halloween. "In my mind, it's really in the past," Davis said. "Now I'm set up for the season and playing good baseball."

1B | Mark Trumbo | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim general manager Jerry Dipoto said the team's isn't overly concerned with the fact that 1B Mark Trumbo's (ankle) rehab is taking longer than expected. Trumbo is still expected to be ready to return to action at some point during spring training, although a potential move to third base may have to be delayed.

1B | Prince Fielder | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
According to an unnamed agent, the Seattle Mariners' interest in free-agent 1B Prince Fielder (Brewers) is "extremely overblown." Two agents are saying that Seattle only has $3-4 million left to spend on their roster this year.


Second Baseman

2B | Howard Kendrick | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Howard Kendrick will make $4.5 million this year, and he'll also receive a $1.4 million signing bonus. In 2013, he'll make $8.75 million, followed by salaries of $9.35 million in 2014 and $9.5 million in 2015. Kendrick will have a partial no-trade clause; he can block trades to a list of 15 teams submitted by him and his agent. However, the number of teams he can block will decrease to 12 teams in 2013, six teams in 2014 and four teams in 2015.


Catcher

C | Koyie Hill | St. Louis Cardinals | Transaction, Fantasy
The St. Louis Cardinals signed free-agent C Koyie Hill (Cubs) to a minor league deal Tuesday, Jan. 10, according to a source. He will make $750,000 if he makes the big league roster out of spring training.


Outfielder

OF | Alfonso Soriano | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano has $54 million remaining on his contract, and the team has been unable to find any takers willing to take on a decent portion of the remaining salary. As such, it appears Soriano will open the season as the team's starting left fielder.

OF | Carlos Gomez | Milwaukee Brewers | Transaction, Fantasy
The Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a one-year deal around $2 million with OF Carlos Gomez Tuesday, Jan. 10, to avoid arbitration with the outfielder.

OF | John Bowker | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents
The Philadelphia Phillies released OF John Bowker Tuesday, Jan. 10, so that he can pursue a job in the Japanese League.


Starting Pitcher

SP | Charlie Morton | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury
Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) is jogging and throwing long toss as the team's mini-camp. His rehab is on schedule.

SP | Dustin Nippert | Korean League | Transaction, Free Agents
The Doosan Bears of the Korean League signed free-agent SP Dustin Nippert (Rangers) and RP Scott Proctor (Yankees) to undisclosed deals.

SP | Joe Blanton | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Free Agents, Fantasy,
Philadelphia Phillies general manager Scott Proefrock said Tuesday, Jan. 10, that SP Joe Blanton (elbow) would be assured of a rotation spot if healthy. "This is a big year for him," Proefrock said. "It's his free-agent year and we expect he'll pitch well for us."

The Philadelphia Phillies are focused on a one-year deal for SP Cole Hamels. "We've had discussions with Cole," assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said Tuesday, Jan. 10. "Right now, we're focused on a one-year deal."

The Boston Red Sox are not close to signing free-agent SP Hiroki Kuroda (Dodgers).

SP | Paul Maholm | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy,
Chicago Cubs SP Paul Maholm can make $50,000 extra in 2012 for 150 innings pitched. He can make an extra $100,000 each at 160, 170, 180, 190 and 200 innings pitched.

The Boston Red Sox are still searching for low-cost pitching options on the free-agent market. The Chicago Cubs have a plethora of options for the starting rotation as they approach spring training this year. The candidates include SPs Matt Garza, Paul Maholm, Ryan Dempster, Travis Wood, Chris Volstad, Randy Wells and Casey Coleman. Wood and Maholm are the only left-handers in the group.


Relief Pitcher

Philadelphia Phillies general manager Scott Proefrock was pessimistic that free-agent RP Brad Lidge (Phillies) will return to the team in 2012. "Brad's a tremendous part of the success of our franchise," Proefrock said. "You never say never, but I'd say at this point it would have to be the right situation for both parties."

RP | Blake Hawksworth | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury,
Los Angeles Dodgers RP Blake Hawksworth (elbow) will have arthroscopic surgery Wednesday, Jan. 11, on his right elbow. He'll have scar tissue removed and have a bone spur shaved down. Hawksworth is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks, but should pitch at some point during spring training, according to a team spokesman.

RP | Ryan Madson | Cincinnati Reds | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Cincinnati Reds and free-agent RP Ryan Madson (Phillies) agreed on a one-year deal Tuesday, Jan. 10, worth in excess of $10 million.

RP | Seth McClung | Milwaukee Brewers | Transaction,
The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent RP Seth McClung (Rangers) to a minor league deal Tuesday, Jan. 10. The deal doesn't include an invite to spring training, though. "I'm going to have to go down to the minor league camp and work down there," McClung said. "But they're going to give me some of those innings in spring training when they need the young guys to come up. I wouldn't have done that for any other team than Milwaukee."

RP | Francisco Cordero | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Cincinnati Reds are in serious talks with free-agent RP Ryan Madson (Phillies). The team is one of the last to fill their closer role, although they have also been talking to free-agent RP Francisco Cordero (Reds) about possibly re-signing.

RP | Aaron Heilman | Seattle Mariners | Transaction,
The Seattle Mariners agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent RP Aaron Heilman (Pirates) Tuesday, Jan. 10. Heilman will receive an invite to spring training.

RP | Kerry Wood | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Cincinnati Reds are interested in signing free-agent RP Kerry Wood (Cubs), but general manager Walt Jocketty said "it depends on the cost." Cincinnati "probably" won't re-sign RP Francisco Cordero and add Wood.

RP | Jeremy Accardo | free agent | Free Agents,
The Philadelphia Phillies are interested in signing free-agent RP Jeremy Accardo (Orioles) to a minor league deal.

RP | Miguel Batista | New York Mets | Transaction,
The New York Mets signed free-agent Ps Miguel Batista (Mets) and Fernando Cabrera (Athletics) and SS Sean Kazmar (Mariners) Tuesday, Jan. 10. Kazmar will report to the minor leagues.
