First Baseman

1B | Prince Fielder | free agent | Free Agents
The Washington Nationals have emerged as the favorites to sign free-agent 1B Prince Fielder (Brewers), according to an MLB official.

1B | Justin Morneau | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau (concussion) said he has improved and is still recovering from post-concussion syndrome. "Most days, I wake up I feel pretty good," Morneau said. "Usually after I get done - I really exert myself, really working out hard - after a long day, your brain gets tired and everything gets so worn down. It's not functioning the way it's supposed to be, and you kind of get done with the day and you go, 'Something's not right.' And you end up going home and taking a nap for a couple hours or whatever it is, and you wake up and the headache's still there and you kind of grind through it." He has been taking part in balance exercise that will help him slowly work his way back to baseball activities. Morneau is hoping to be ready for spring training.

Second Baseman

2B | Brandon Phillips | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
The Cincinnati Reds haven't had discussions on a contract extension with 2B Brandon Phillips since the winter meetings in early December. General manager Walt Jocketty said they won't re-open talks until January.

SS | Brian Bocock | Toronto Blue Jays | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed P Jerry Gil (Reds) and SS Brian Bocock (Pirates) to minor league contracts.

SS | Hiroyuki Nakajima | Japanese League | Fantasy

SS | Ryan Theriot | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Cincinnati Reds have had discussions with the representatives of free-agent 2B Ryan Theriot (Cardinals), but nothing is closer. "We're trying to get a hitter first," general manager Walt Jocketty said Friday, Dec. 30.

Third Baseman

3B | Hanley Ramirez | Miami Marlins | Fantasy
Miami Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez says he'll accept a position switch to third base so SS Jose Reyes can play shortstop. When Reyes signed a $106 million, six-year deal with Miami last month, there was speculation Ramirez was unhappy about being supplanted at short. But new manager Ozzie Guillen sold Ramirez on the idea. "I have spoken with Guillen," Ramirez said. "What we want is to win with the Marlins. We will see what's going to happen with the position switch and everything else. If it's third base, OK. Wherever they put me to win, I will do so."

Outfielder

OF | Michael Bourn | Atlanta Braves | Free Agents
The Atlanta Braves haven't approached OF Michael Bourn's agent, Scott Boras, regarding an extension. Bourn is slated to be a free agent after the 2012 season.

OF | Coco Crisp | free agent | Free Agents
The Baltimore Orioles were looking for a leadoff hitter, but it sounds like they have shifted their focus from free-agent OF Coco Crisp (Athletics).

OF | Cody Ross | free agent | Free Agents
The Atlanta Braves have some interest in free-agent OF Cody Ross (Giants). He's reportedly seeking a deal in the two-year, $10 million range.

OF | Ryan Ludwick | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Oakland Athletics have expressed interest in free-agent OF Ryan Ludwick (Pirates).

OF | Carlos Quentin | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
The San Diego Padres may utilize contract extensions on players like OF Carlos Quentin and OF Cameron Maybin to lock up some free-agent years and guarantee payroll certainty. "We don't have any commitments to 2013 and beyond," Padres General Manager Josh Byrnes said. "But we do have choices and decisions to make. Our payroll model is setting up well. We're not in total go-for-it mode, but we can make some choices. We acquired Carlos with the thought that we could extend him. We want to win as soon as possible for as long as possible."

OF | Andre Ethier | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
The Chicago Cubs are interested in Los Angeles Dodgers OF Andre Ethier should the team make him available for trade.

OF | Carl Crawford | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine plans to meet with OF Carl Crawford and SP Josh Beckett before spring camp begins to address their situations and get on the same page. "There is no, from what I gather, any adversarial relationship with either situation," Valentine said.

OF | Andruw Jones | New York Yankees | Fantasy
Updating previous reports, New York Yankees OF Andruw Jones can make up to $1.4 million in incentives on his one-year, $2 million contract. Jones can earn $45,000 each for 100 and 125 plate appearances, $70,000 each for 150, 175, 200 and 225 plate appearances, $170,000 apiece for 250 and 275, $220,000 apiece for 300 and 325 and $300,000 for 350 plate appearances.

OF | Dayan Viciedo | Chicago White Sox | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Chicago White Sox OF Dayan Viciedo is expected to become the team's starter in right field, as a result of the trade of OF Carlos Quentin to the San Diego Padres.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Paul Maholm | free agent | Free Agents
The Baltimore Orioles are interested in free-agent SP Paul Maholm (Pirates).

SP | Hisashi Iwakuma | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Baltimore Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette, still searching for another starting pitcher and also committed to increasing the club's presence in the international market, remains interested in Japanese SP Hisashi Iwakuma, according to an industry source.

SP | Edwin Jackson | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent SP Edwin Jackson (Cardinals) is seeking a five-year deal worth about $12 million per season. That asking price is likely to leave the New York Yankees out of the running for Jackson, sources say. New York already has missed out on free-agent starters C.J. Wilson and Mark Buehrle, who signed with the Los Angeles Angels and Miami Marlins, respectively.

SP | Matt Garza | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
The Toronto Blue Jays may make a run at acquiring SP Matt Garza from the Chicago Cubs. The Blue Jays may use SP Kyle Drabek as bait, according to team sources.

SP | Gavin Floyd | Chicago White Sox | Fantasy,
Chicago White Sox general manager Kenny Williams said he doesn't envision making any more deals this offseason, which means OF Carlos Quentin, SP Gavin Floyd and RP Matt Thornton will be on the roster in spring training.

SP | John Danks | Chicago White Sox | Fantasy,
Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox SP John Danks' limited no-trade clause for the final four years of his contract will let him block a trade to six undisclosed teams. Many believe the White Sox will try to deal Danks at some point after the 2012 season. However, general manager Kenny Williams made it sound like Danks will stick around for the long haul. "I'll put it to you this way," said Williams. "I don't care what team it's against or what opposing pitcher. I'm not scared to have him out there. "He'll give you everything he has on that particular day and might shut you down. I'm not afraid for him to go up against anyone."

Relief Pitcher

RP | Sergio Santos | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy
The Toronto Blue Jays' projected 2012 bullpen is expected to include RPs Jason Frasor, Casey Janssen, Jesse Litsch, Darren Oliver, Luis Perez, Sergio Santos and Carlos Villanueva. Ps Chad Beck, Joel Carreno and Danny Farquhar will also be in contention for a bullpen spot.

RP | Ryan Madson | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Some baseball executives feel that Scott Boras, the agent for free-agent RP Ryan Madson (Phillies), is seeking a contract for his client similar to the one RP Rafael Soriano received from the New York Yankees last offseason. Soriano signed a three-year deal worth $35 million.

RP | Aaron Laffey | Toronto Blue Jays | Transaction, Free Agents,
The Toronto Blue Jays signed free-agent SP Aaron Laffey (Royals) to a split contract Friday, Dec. 30. He will have a chance to compete for a rotation spot in the spring. Laffey came up with the Cleveland Indians when Blue Jays manager John Farrell was the player development director.

RP | Rich Hill | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Transaction,
The Boston Red Sox re-signed RP Rich Hill (elbow) to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training Friday, Dec. 30. Hill is hoping to be ready for spring training after tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow June 1.
