The agent for free-agent QB David Garrard (Jaguars), Al Irby, said the Jacksonville Jaguars withheld information about Garrard's back injury in order to save money. "At $500,000 per game, they knew he would be down four to six weeks. They didn't want to pay that bill," Irby said via e-mail. "Now you know the difference between a first-class organization like Indy, and a sorry organization like the Jags. Indy gave their QB a contract even though he couldn't play all season ... David was told his back was fine. So he took them for their word. Now he has to go to surgery, and Jacksonville is saying, 'Not my problem.' What a first class organization!"

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said Monday, Oct. 17, that the reason QB Blaine Gabbert is not improving in terms of statistics is due to the team's schedule. "He's seeing some of the best defenses that are out there," Del Rio said. In recent weeks, the team has played the New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers. Del Rio said Gabbert continues to progress, even if the stats don't say so.

"There's not a break in sight right now, it's a month away. We've just got to be smart with him. Throughout the week, if I've got to give him a break, a day a week, or two days a week. Matt can play without the practice. I've just got to be smart with him, but he is just very banged up right now, after six weeks."

The Miami Dolphins have had difficulty targeting WR Brandon Marshall in the red zone this season. Marshall was targeted three times in the red zone in Week 6, failing to make a catch. All six of his receptions came outside of the red zone. On the season, Marshall has just one catch on 10 red zone targets.

The New York Jets are still having trouble incorporating WR Plaxico Burress in the offense. He had just 13 total receptions in the first five games and only one in Week 6.

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is optimistic WR Andre Johnson (hamstring) will return soon. "He made improvement last week," Kubiak said Monday, Oct. 17. "I had a long talk with him Saturday night at the hotel. He's feeling very, very good. We'll increase his work. I have a hard time saying right now (if he'll play in Week 7)."

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin (thumb) isn't guaranteed to play in Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders despite the fact that he has recovered from a broken thumb. "I don't think it's a lock that Jonathan will be active or not," head coach Todd Haley said. "Right now, we'll go through this week. There are a lot of factors that will play into that decision." Baldwin has missed plenty of practice time, and the team wants him to be up to speed before inserting him as the No. 3 receiver.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (hamstring) resumed his rehab Monday, Oct. 17, but his status for Week 7 remains unclear. The team hopes to have a better idea on his availability by Wednesday, Oct. 19.

You know, two-minute drives at the end of the half and things. We're happy with where Ocho is right now."

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons hasn't played well at outside linebacker in the last two games with LB James Harrison (eye) out, so the team could go in another direction. LB Jason Worilds (quadriceps) could return for Week 7, and he would replace Timmons.

LB | Shawne Merriman | Buffalo Bills | Injury
Buffalo Bills OT Chris Hairston (ankle) will miss up to four weeks after injuring his right ankle in Week 6. LB Shawne Merriman (Achilles') aggravated his Achilles' injury in Week 6 and his status for Week 8 is uncertain.

LB | Rey Maualuga | Cincinnati Bengals | Injury
Cincinnati Bengals LB Rey Maualuga (ankle) was wearing a cast on his left foot Monday, Oct. 17, and he is expected to miss more than just one game due to his sprained left ankle. The Bengals are heading into their bye week in Week 7.

Atlanta Falcons DBs Chris Owens (concussion) and James Sanders (hamstring) are expected to return to practice Wednesday, Oct. 19.

CB | Asante Samuel | Philadelphia Eagles | Injury
Philadelphia Eagles CB Asante Samuel (back) left the game shortly in the third quarter in Week 6 with a lower back bruise.

CB | Terrence McGee | Buffalo Bills | Injury
Buffalo Bills CB Terrence McGee (hamstring) started at cornerback in Week 6 and did not have any problems with his hamstring after the game.


Strong Safety

SS | Taylor Mays | Cincinnati Bengals | Injury
Cincinnati Bengals SS Taylor Mays (knee) made his debut in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts, seeing time on kick and punt return, as well as kick coverage, as defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer brings him along slowly. "He's a good talent; his time will come," Zimmer said. "He'll end up playing. I don't know in what yet. Part of the problem was we got him so late, then he got hurt, then he was doing things the way he used to do them at USC or San Francisco or wherever it was. Now we had to over discipline him."

SS | Kenny Phillips | New York Giants | Injury
New York Giants SS Kenny Phillips (ribs) underwent X-rays on his ribs after he was kicked while trying to make a tackle in Week 6. Head coach Tom Coughlin said Phillips will be fine.
