Fantasy Football sleepers: PK - Week 6

by Tim Heaney on October 13, 2011 @ 13:38:13 PDT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football sleepers of the week. We will avoid marquee names because players of that caliber are rarely benched, regardless of their matchup. Instead, we will focus on the players that make your fantasy lineup decisions stressful each week. Read on to learn which midrange to low-end players you wouldn't necessarily consider that you need to get into your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 2 to Week 5, unless otherwise stated.

Fantasy football sleepers: Place kickers

New York Jets PK Nick Folk
Folk still perfect

Nick Folk, New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • He's a perfect 7-for-7 on field goals this season and 14-for-14 on extra points. After booting five three-pointers in the first two games, he has just two in the last three games as the Jets' O has scuffled or limited him to extra points.
  • Miami has allowed a league-high 10 kicking points per game, tying them for the most in the NFL. This includes 2.67 field goal tries and 2.00 extra points per contest. The Jets' run game improved last week as they've started moving back to a ground-and-pound focus, a good sign that Folk will begin to see more scoring opportunities.

Olindo Mare, Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons

Fantasy value: No. 1 or bench

  • The vet has netted eight of 10 field goal attempts so far this season, with a "long" of 39. His move to a Panthers team that has been decent in the red zone has probably contributed to the decrease in 40-plus attempts.
  • Either way, the Falcons (2.50 FGA, XPA allowed per game) present a solid kicking matchup, especially with their vulnerable secondary that could be a pleasant target for QB Cam Newton.
