• Walden pond not polluted

  Jordan Walden now has a blown save in each of his last three appearances, including a Monday botch job in which he allowed a game-tying solo homer. Extenuating circumstances of this terrible troika: He was called on to record five outs Wednesday and allowed only an inherited runner to score in the eighth. Questionable umpiring led to his second gaffe Sunday. Monday? OK, he left that one in a hot zone.
  An increase in his opponents' liner rate shows that hitters might be figuring him out, but that was the first dinger he allowed in 34 frames this season. Also, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim prevailed in two of his mistake outings, so this gives him a stay of execution. He's likely still working through some mechanical issues, and there's no indication that his job is in jeopardy. Still, pickup proactivity points to Scott Downs.
• Keep your eyes peeled on Hot off the Wire for the results of Jonathan Broxton's Monday MRI on his throwing elbow. The right-hander also had a doctor's visit scheduled following the test. Any negative findings could again set back Brox's return, the target for which recently was as optimistic as sometime this week, and offer more save chances for Javy Guerra, the closest thing the Los Angeles Dodgers have to a stopper.
