• Kuo another saves wrench

  Though he wouldn't make it official, Don Mattingly tipped his hand Tuesday that Javy Guerra is the likeliest Los Angeles Dodgers savior in the absence of Jonathan Broxton (elbow), Hong-Chih Kuo (anxiety), Kenley Jansen (shoulder) and Vicente Padilla (neck). If you feel like a dice roll, try it, but it might be a short-term deal. Jansen could return Friday, and Kuo is making solid rehab progress and might not require much more time.
• Safe to say Francisco Cordero has earned enough rope for the Cincinnati Reds. The righty saved his 14th contest in 16 tries, working around a walk and an RBI single to hang on Tuesday. Beware his 92.7 left-on-base percentage - he's being helped by his defense a bunch. Also, his opponents' in-play hit rate is .181 - prime for correction, right? It isn't as much of a fluke when you look at his 12.9 percent liner rate allowed.
  His addition of a curveball and more frequent use of his changeup seem to have recharged his game, even as he's becoming less of a K/9 arm. His ratios will probably experience some correction, but if it isn't a meltdown and as long as Cincy is in the playoff race, CoCo won't lose his gig. In most cases, you can live with regression as long as the save chances keep coming.
• Joakim Soria threw a scoreless ninth Tuesday, working around a one-out walk to nab his third save in his last three tries. The Kansas City Royals' stopper hasn't allowed a run in six June games (eight innings), registering six K's - all of this after his brief removal from the role. He probably won't get his previous velocity back, but his mechanics are seemingly back on point.
