Cincinnati Bengals president Mike Brown said Tuesday, May 24, that QB Andy Dalton is the player the team wanted and he is big enough to handle the job if QB Carson Palmer does not come back. "Dalton was the guy we wanted at that position," Brown said. "He's what you want as a personality. He's a football guy. He loved football. He's focused on it. He's a down to earth kid with both feet on the ground. That's why we picked him. We think he's a good bet for the future. I don't know how soon that future is going to come."

Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning (neck) underwent a second neck surgery Monday, May 23, but the team is calling the operation a "minimally invasive" surgery, and he expects to make "a quick recovery." Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick said he would be thrilled if the team signed free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Giants) for the 2011 season. Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren is not saying that QB Colt McCoy is the definitive answer to the team's quarterback problem. "We have Seneca Wallace, too, and Jake Delhomme as well right now," Holmgren said. "But (McCoy) got his feet wet last year. I didn't necessarily want him to play that much last year, but we were injured, and so he had a chance to play. He showed us enough where he will go in, and we're hopeful that - it'll be competitive - but if he does what I think he can do, he'll probably be the guy, yeah."

Free-agent WR Torry Holt (Patriots) said he would like to sign with a team next season and has not filed his retirement papers at this point. Holt has been helping out the St. Louis Rams wide receivers during offseason workouts as a volunteer coach.

The Chicago Bears likely will not pursue free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Giants) once he gets out of jail and free agency begins.

Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall said he is fully healed from the abdomen injury he suffered after he was stabbed last month. Marshall has resumed his training program and is looking to regain his explosiveness.
