Fantasy NASCAR RacingFantasy NASCAR rankings: FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks
Thanks to Mother Nature's lack of cooperation, NASCAR got a chance to try out its new qualifying procedure this weekend at Dover. In past years, drivers would be lined up based on owner points in the event qualifying was rained out. This year, the lineup is set by practice times with the fastest lap turned by each driver being used to determine their starting position. The big winner with the rule change was Jimmie Johnson. The six-time Dover winner was awarded the pole, and with victories in three of his past four starts at the track, he has to be considered the favorite to win this weekend. If he does, he will be tied for the most all-time wins at Dover. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, there is a downside to the rain as well. For one, all the rubber will be washed off the track, making the surface a bit more slippery and causing setups that worked well on Friday to suddenly become useless. Not to mention the fact that rain could be a factor Sunday. A rain-shortened race brings pit strategy and fuel mileage into play, which means drivers with the fastest cars might not be the ones running up front if and when Mother Nature decides to get involved.
