Minnesota Twins RP Joe Nathan has been removed from the closer's role and replaced with RP Matt Capps, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune's LaVelle E. Neal III. Manager Ron Gardenhire and pitching coach Rick Anderson discussed the situation with Nathan after Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, in which the right-hander blew his second straight save opportunity. They concluded that it was best to put the pitcher, who missed 2010 after having Tommy John surgery, in less stressful situations. By trying to regain his form while closing, Nathan realized that he was hurting the team. "I think everything, physically, how I feel, is fine," Nathan said Saturday, according to ESPN.com. He added that he's struggling with inconsistency, however. He has an 8.44 ERA in 5 1/3 innings. Capps has a 4.50 ERA in eight frames.
