What are the odds that you still own the same relief pitchers you rostered in your fantasy baseball draft? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat series gives you a no-nonsense perspective on performances, injuries and managerial decisions from MLB bullpens. Get your arm loose: Let's find fantasy baseball players who'll get saves in your rotisserie or head-to-head baseball league.

Mound meetings

  • On Wednesday, Jose Contreras faced his first save opp as the Philadelphia Phillies' interim stopper; he stranded a two-out walk in converting it. He was set up by a perfect eighth from Ryan Madson, who has been given a closing non-endorsement by everyone from Charlie Manuel to the Phillie Phanatic.
Manuel confirmed yesterday that Brad Lidge (shoulder) will probably be out until sometime around the All-Star break. Lidge's timetable sets up Contreras for a hefty fantasy contribution.
  • Jon Rauch retired the only two hitters he faced Wednesday on seven pitches to notch his first save of the season. Frank Francisco (pectoral) is slated to start a rehab assignment Thursday and will likely require three appearances before rejoining the Toronto Blue Jays.
If all goes well, you'll probably only have another week or so of Rauch as a stopper, and if not a closer, he isn't much of an asset. Still, if you need saves and have a roster spot free, you could hang on to Rauch after Frank Frank returns to see how the latter performs, or if he remains healthy.
