2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report: DJ, TE, Arkansas

by Cory J. Bonini on April 5, 2011 @ 19:11:55 PDT

Arkansas senior DJ Williams is a pass-catching tight end prospect in the 2011 NFL Draft. Williams is a versatile player in the mold of the New York Jets' Dustin Keller or the New England Patriots' Aaron Hernandez.

In 2010, Williams caught 54 passes for 627 yards and scored four touchdowns. He produced a 58-699-3 line as a sophomore but regressed (32-411-3) in 2009 after falling out of favor with head coach Bobby Petrino because of Williams' blocking skills.

  • Agility
  • Hands
  • Speed (official 4.59-second 40-yard dash)
  • Very good effort as a blocker
  • David J. Williams, draft prospect
    Athletic, pass-catching TE
    Good character and community leader
  • Understands how to exploit zone coverage
  • Overcame a very rough childhood
  • Respected team leader
  • Can flex out as a slot receiver

  • Size (6-foot-2 1/8, 245 pounds)
  • Is overwhelmed by bigger blockers because of his stature
  • Isn't very elusive running with the ball
  • Doesn't always make sharp cuts in his routes

Expected draft placement

Expect Williams to come off the board in the third round. He could fall into the fourth, but it would be a shock to see him fall past the middle of the round.

He could draw interest from the Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants
