He has found himself swinging too early on outside pitches and too late on inside pitches. "It's just a timing thing," Long said. "In the long run, this is going to be a good thing, because he'll be able to see the ball longer and make better decisions. But we just gotta be patient." Long has been trying to subtract Jeter's stride toward the ball in order to speed up his swing.
