"I enjoyed it and I'd love to do it for this team," Kinsler said. "It's very early, so we'll see. "I would prefer not to (use Castro at leadoff)," said Quade, who plans to keep Castro at No. 2 in the order after a .300 rookie season that included a .347 on-base percentage. "Because he's young. "But will he start more games at third than anybody else? No," Scioscia said. "Izzy will be a primary player at three different positions. We'll have an opportunity to give (second baseman) Howie (Kendrick) and (shortstop) Erick (Aybar) breathers when Alberto Callaspo is at third. So if Izzy plays 100 games, it might be 30-30-40. "The first thing that impressed me was his work ethic," bench coach Don Wakamatsu said. "He understands where he is and where he needs to go. There are a lot of things we need to cover before we break (camp) but ... he's stayed extra time, he's worked extremely hard at everything he's doing." "I implemented a little more of the biomechanics of my pitching and just really worked on the strength of my core and the stability of my legs," Shields said. Rains. "That's the argument for either Miguel or Kyle," manager Tony La Russa said. "Kyle, every year he's more important. You have to win games at the end like you do at the beginning. We never wanted to penalize Kyle. In the end, you look at what's best for your pitching staff, not just your rotation. Kyle is in a great position. He's a valuable member of the bullpen. But maybe he's the best starter." La Russa said that the final spot in the bullpen is Batista's to lose this spring. SP Raul Valdes could be an intriguing wild card for the final rotation spot.
