2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Cameron Jordan, DE, California

by Cory J. Bonini on April 12, 2011 @ 16:00:33 PDT

California defensive end Cameron Jordan heads to the 2011 NFL Draft after three straight productive seasons. The senior prospect racked up a career-high 51 tackles last year and tied a personal best with 6.0 sacks.

  • Size (6-foot-4, 287 pounds)
  • Powerful, stout against the run
  • Ideal fit in a 3-4 alignment and has experience in the system
  • Understands how to use leverage
  • Cameron Jordan, draft prospect
    Solid first-rounder
Solid wrap-up tackler with closing burst to wallop ball carrier
  • High effort and motor
  • NFL bloodlines (father, Steve Jordan, was a six-time Pro Bowl tight end)
  • Emerging leader
  • Sheds blocks well

  • Lacks elite speed, agility and edge-rushing ability
  • Inconsistent burst off the line
  • Needs to improve his awareness when attempting to block passing lanes
  • Arrested in 2008 on suspicion of DUI and was suspended for the opener

Expected draft placement

Jordan is a blue-collar player with limited upside. He probably won't "wow" anyone in the NFL, but he should be a very stable player for many years.

Considering the premium placed on 3-4 players, Jordan figures to draw attention from the Dallas Cowboys (No. 9), Washington Redskins (No. 10), Houston Texans (No. 11), Miami Dolphins (No. 15), New England Patriots (No. 17, No. 28), San Diego Chargers (No. 18) and New York Jets (No. 30). That's quite the span for a first-rounder, but Jordan's placement will largely be dictated based on team needs.
