Brown, Ray Chang, Brian Dozier, Justin Huber and Chase Lambin; and OF's Jeff Bailey and Brian Dinkelman.

Cincinnati Reds 3B Juan Francisco (leg) has suffered a right leg injury while playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic and has not played since Dec. 10, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. Francisco fouled a pitch off his leg under his right knee and was hospitalized when it became infected. His knee had to be drained. "He's fine," general manager Walt Jocketty said. "A contusion has kept him out, but it's nothing serious." Francisco has been practicing the last few days and is batting .322 (49-for-152) with eight home runs and 30 RBIs.


Catcher

C | Koyie Hill | Chicago Cubs | Transaction
The Chicago Cubs avoided arbitration with C Koyie Hill Wednesday, Jan. 12, by agreeing to a one-year, $850,000 deal, according to ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine.


Outfielder

OF | Carlos Gonzalez | Colorado Rockies | Fantasy
Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez will make $1 million this year, $5 million in 2012, $7.5 million in 2013, $10.5 million in 2014, $16 million in 2015, $17 million in 2016 and $20 million in 2017, according to The Denver Post's Troy E. Renck.

The Tampa Bay Rays are still searching for a closer and could settle for free-agent RPs Brian Fuentes (Twins) or Jon Rauch (Twins), according to MLB.com's Bailey Stephens.

RP | Jim Johnson | Baltimore Orioles | Injury
Baltimore Orioles RP Jim Johnson (elbow) said the slight ligament tear in his right elbow is a non-issue, MASNSports.com's Roch Kubatko reports. Johnson said he has been throwing for three weeks and will throw off a mound for the first time in two weeks. That's pretty much his normal routine, though he's done more "rehab-style" exercises because of his right elbow. Johnson also forced himself to rest for an extra week before getting back to the gym.

The New York Mets signed RP Taylor Tankersley (Marlins) to a minor league contract, according to MLB.com's Doug Miller. No financial terms were announced for the deal, which includes an invitation to spring training.

Free-agent RP Trevor Hoffman (Brewers) announced his retirement from baseball Tuesday, Jan. 11, according to MLB.com's Barry M. Bloom. Hoffman finishes his career with an all-time record with 601 regular-season saves. He will return to the San Diego Padres in a front-office role. "It's time to retire. It's time to move on," Hoffman said. "This is more of a self-evaluation. I expect to pitch at a certain level and I had to be honest with myself that I wasn't certain I could maintain that anymore."
