Houston Astros general manager Ed Wade said the team would not pursue free-agent 1B Lance Berkman (Yankees) this offseason, according to Mark Berman of FOX 26. "I heard from (agent) Mike Moye and he inquired about whether we had interest in bringing Lance back and I was candid with him and told him it didn't fit for us," Wade said. "As much as we love and respect Lance and what he's done for our organization, we had these internal conversations in July when we made the decision to go ahead and move him."

Updating previous reports, Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said the team may try to sign free-agent C Miguel Olivo despite having bought out his contract for $500,000, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. "(The trade) allowed us to have dialogue with Olivo's agent last night," Anthopoulos said. "It allowed us to explain to him with the way things are going for us in the offseason, explaining that we would like to have John Buck, we do have J.P. Arencibia with the club, we do have Molina under contract currently, but we do not know what the offseason is going to bring." If Olivo declines arbitration and signs with another team, the Blue Jays would receive a supplemental pick between the first and second rounds of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

"We'll know what the landscape will be. It'll be a little more defined, and we'll have a better understanding and feel for what our alternatives are, and we may very well come back and try to get something done with him. He's very open to coming back here."
