New York Yankees 1B/DH Lance Berkman has hinted he may play elsewhere in 2011 if his role is going to be a part-time designated hitter, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

1B | Adam Dunn | Washington Nationals | Fantasy
An unnamed baseball source said the Washington Nationals would have interest in Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp if he is made available in a trade, according to Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post. If Kemp or another outfielder is acquired by the Nationals, they could move OF Josh Willingham or OF/IF Mike Morse to first base, assuming they are unable to re-sign free-agent 1B Adam Dunn or obtain a comparable first baseman.


Second Baseman

Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz (knee) is not feeling any ill effects after being hit on the left kneecap during the sixth inning of Game 2 of the NLDS Friday, Oct. 8, according to Matt Gelb of The Philadelphia Inquirer. X-rays taken after the game came back negative and Ruiz took batting practice Saturday, Oct. 9, without reporting any problems.

C | Buster Posey | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
Updating previous reports, San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey (ribs) said he felt a little tightness after his collision with 3B Pablo Sandoval Friday, Oct. 8, but it did not impact his swing in the later innings, according to Andrew Baggarly of The Mercury News. He took batting practice Saturday, Oct. 9, and said he felt much better.

C | Josh Bard | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Mariners C Josh Bard was injured in a car crash last week in Colorado that took the life of a Denver-area pastor, according to MLB.com's Bailey Stephens. It was not known how severe Bard's injuries were.


Outfielder

The Detroit Tigers informed soon-to-be free agent OF Johnny Damon that he won't be re-signed for 2011, the New York Post's George A. King III reports.

OF | Tyson Gillies | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Updating previous reports, the Florida state attorney's office has dropped a cocaine possession charge against Philadelphia Phillies minor league OF Tyson Gillies, after a drug test taken five hours after his arrest proved that he had no drugs in his system, according to Mark Hunter of The Kamloops Daily News. "All the screens and all the evidence they had showed that he did not possess or consume or ingest any narcotics," said lawyer Kevin Hayslett. "Upon their investigation, after they had the benefit of the evidence that I was in possession of, they determined to drop all charges and basically vindicate Tyson."

If manager Joe Girardi decided to have Sabathia start Games 1, 4 and 7, the Yankees would likely have to use someone like SP A.J. Burnett in Game 5, unless they also wanted to use SP Phil Hughes or SP Andy Pettitte on short rest as well.

SP | Madison Bumgarner | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said an announcement regarding a starting pitcher for Game 4 of the NLDS will not be made until after Game 3 has ended, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. He added that SP Madison Bumgarner, who is under consideration to receive the starting nod for Game 4, could be used in relief in Game 3.

SP | Bronson Arroyo | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds SP Bronson Arroyo will have his $11 million option picked up for the 2011 season, according to AOL FanHouse, and general manager Walt Jocketty has discussed a long-term contract for Arroyo.

SP | Edinson Volquez | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker has not made a decision on who would start Game 4 of the NLDS Monday, Oct. 10, if necessary, according to John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer. SPs Travis Wood, Edinson Volquez and Homer Bailey are all under consideration, although Wood is expected to be available out of the bullpen for Game 3 Sunday, Oct. 9.

SP | Travis Wood | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker has not made a decision on who would start Game 4 of the NLDS Monday, Oct. 10, if necessary, according to John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer. SPs Travis Wood, Edinson Volquez and Homer Bailey are all under consideration, although Wood is expected to be available out of the bullpen for Game 3 Sunday, Oct. 9.


Relief Pitcher

Updating previous reports, Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox has confirmed that the team has petitioned the league to replace CL Billy Wagner (oblique) on their NLDS roster with RP Takashi Saito, according to MLB.com's Mark Bowman.

RP | Mark Hendrickson | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy
Baltimore Orioles RP Mark Hendrickson is likely to have his $1.2 million club option for 2011 declined by the club, according to The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. He would get a $200,000 buyout. There is still a chance that Hendrickson could return and get an opportunity to compete for a bullpen role, but it would be at a reduced price.

RP | Rich Hill | Boston Red Sox | Transaction, Fantasy
The Boston Red Sox have outrighted P Rich Hill to Triple-A Pawtucket, according to The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham. He will become a free agent five days after the World Series ends, but the team has shown an interest in offering him a minor league contract for next season with a chance to make the 25-man roster.
