Pineiro (oblique) will have missed nearly two months by the time he takes the mound for the Halos this weekend versus the Tampa Bay Rays. After some simulated games and a rehab start for Advanced Class A Rancho Cucamonga this past weekend, he should be good to go.
Pineiro has experienced above-average ground-ball success this season, although his rate isn't quite as pronounced as it was last season, with the St. Louis Cardinals. The combination of a regression to his career norms in BB/9 and HR/9, although still more than acceptable, point to the areas that have contributed to his more ordinary 4.18 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.
Pineiro is no K artist, but he remains serviceable. He'll get a few starts to close things out. Maybe you'll think that it's best to avoid the right-hander against a deep Tampa club. If his sinkerball is on, he'll be fine.
