Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league. Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly. Key
PitchersRyan Perry, RP, Detroit Tigers
The Tigers drafted Perry in 2008 with the idea that he was a likely "closer of the future." His numbers (4.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 6.84 K/9) aren't pretty, but they belie the young right-hander's ability. He throws mid- to upper-90s gas with - at times - really nasty breaking stuff. Harnessing the control and (reportedly, judging from comments Jim Leyland has made) focusing while he's on the mound are the biggest issues facing Perry. He exhibits signs that he can handle it, but he lacks consistency. In his last 19 innings (since July), he has posted a 2.37 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and 13 K's. Most important for his fantasy value at this juncture: Jose Valverde is experiencing soreness around his elbow and will miss a few days. Perry will fill in, as he did yesterday, when he notched a save. Maybe save chances are what he needs to rekindle the fire he had in college. This may be a short-term thing, but Valverde is under contract through at least next year, so don't expect Detroit to take chances.
