In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Mound meetings

  • New York Mets RP Hisanori Takahashi
    Takahashi: Mets' 2011 closer?
Hisanori Takahashi gave up a leadoff single but retired the next three batters to grab his third save as closer for the New York Mets. The southpaw continues his dominance as a reliever (2.28 ERA, 1.15 WHIP in 43 1/3 innings, compared to 5.01 and 1.45, respectively, as a starter).
New York general manager Omar Minaya said the team would like to bring back Tak for 2011. (Of course, that's if Minaya sticks.) Francisco Rodriguez's reported October arbitration hearing might also indirectly determine K-Rod's future with the Mets.
Takahashi has made a decent case to be the first to step in if K-Rod becomes expendable. There's a long way to go until this is finalized, but don't ignore Takahashi's 2011 potential.
  • Brad Lidge closed out the win for the Philadelphia Phillies in an eventful ninth Thursday. A fielding error by Ryan Howard allowed the leadoff runner to reach, then a single put runners on first and third. A fielder's choice scored one, but after a walk, Lidge recorded a K and a groundout to wrap it up.
Lidge since July: a 0.63 ERA, a 0.63 WHIP, 15 K's and a 1.22 opponents' average in 14 1/3 innings. He has given up only one earned run in that stretch.
