In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Mound meetings

  • Cleveland Indians RP Chris Perez
    Underappreciated: Chris Perez
Checking in with Matt Capps: The righty threw a scoreless inning Thursday, his sixth conversion in eight chances with the Minnesota Twins. For all the flak the Twins took from naysayers for the trade, Capps has a 2.08 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP and 10 K's in 13 innings.
Jon Rauch's presence in the bullpen doghouse has made Capps' job security a non-issue; Jesse Crain is probably next in line, and deservedly so (2.63 ERA, 48 K's in 54 2/3 innings).
  • With his five-out Thursday save (he fanned four) in the books, Chris Perez hasn't walked a batter in August (1.80 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, 13 K's in 10 innings), during which he has also posted an 11.70 K/9 in 10 innings. A slight jump in grounder inducement is probably a contributor, too.
His fly-ball frequency is still a little high to be completely comfortable, but his near spotless control is comforting since he is at least making Cleveland Indians opponents earn a trip to the bases.
  • Another reminder: The Seattle Mariners expect closer David Aardsma (ribs) to be available for this weekend's series.
