With the emergence of Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Kareem Huggins as a candidate for the team's No. 2 running back spot, RB Derrick Ward may need a strong showing in the team's next preseason game to keep a roster spot, according to Ira Kaufman, of The Tampa Tribune. "That decision could take its time," Morris said. "Obviously, Huggy has looked impressive the last couple of weeks. Derrick knows what he needs to do. He has to go out there, he has to get it done and you'd better do it fast. In 2009, we weren't a very good football team. We all struggled. "But he's got to have blind faith in his coaches and trainers that we're doing what's best."

WR | Chaz Schilens | Oakland Raiders | Injury
Oakland Raiders WR Chaz Schilens (knee) should miss a couple of weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, according to CBSSports.com. Head coach Tom Cable said he does not know is Schilens will be available for Week 1.

WR | Demaryius Thomas | Denver Broncos | Injury
Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas' (foot) status for the team's Week 1 game is in doubt due to a foot injury, according to Jeff Legwold, of The Denver Post. Thomas left practice Tuesday, Aug. 24, because of pain in his left foot. There was concern he had a stress fracture that could potentially keep him on the sidelines for three to four months. However, initial tests, including X-rays and an MRI exam, indicated Thomas doesn't have a stress fracture, a league source confirmed.

San Diego Chargers restricted free-agent WR Vincent Jackson's agents, Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod, do not believe the Chargers want to trade Jackson based on how they are acting, reports Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole. "I asked the Chargers if we could talk to the rest of the teams in the NFL," Schwartz said. "They said there were certain teams they didn't want to trade him to, and I said, 'Fine, tell me those teams and we can exclude them.' Even after that, they said no, so the only conclusion I can come to is they don't want to trade him." The agents said around six teams have expressed interest in Jackson. Schwartz and Feinsod asked the Chargers what they were looking for in a trade, but the team would not tell them.

Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice (hip) posted on his blog that he is feeling better each day after undergoing hip surgery. Rice said he initially injured his hip during the NFC Championship Game and then tweaked the injury during minicamp. Rice decided to continue his rehab and have surgery after this season. However, an MRI done a week and a half ago show significant changes to his hip that could shorten his career if it was not taken care of, and the doctor said the 2010 season could have been his last if he did not undergo surgery and tried to play with the injury. Rice said he is hoping to return before midseason for their push to the Super Bowl.

WR | Ramses Barden | New York Giants | Injury
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said WR Ramses Barden (back) could return to about a week even though he has a stress fracture in the transverse process of his lower back, reports Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News. He expects to be ready for the start of the season and is not worried about the back injury lingering during the season.
