Middle infieldersJed Lowrie, 2B/SS, Boston Red Sox The BoSox had to place Dustin Pedroia right back on the disabled list. Pain from his not yet completely healed broken foot was worse today than it was on Thursday, when he sat out for the first time since his return.
The Red Sox won't let Pedroia rush back this time, so Lowrie has a few weeks of significant PT in front of him, at least. The obvious beneficiary is Kearns, who has played in three of the club's last four games, which have all come since Berkman was injured on Sunday. Marcus Thames is the regular right-handed bat at DH. Although he has hit righties well this year, Joe Girardi has managed him carefully. Kearns is a better hitter against right-handers in his career. Since Kearns joined the Pinstripes, he's 11-for-35 with a homer and five RBIs. He has been a surprise of sorts for, first, the Cleveland Indians and, now, perhaps, the Yanks too. He should earn enough at-bats per week to warrant a look in deep formats. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Consider AL-only: Acquire Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NLAbout Nicholas Minnix
