Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Key

Acquire Add player (in most circumstances)
Consider Add for speculation or because of need
Watch Track player, consider if trend continues
Pass Do not add player (in most circumstances)

Catchers

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C/1B, Boston Red Sox

The BoSox called up the switch-hitting Salty, who'll dress today and could be used as a complement to Mike Lowell as well as behind the plate. Boston has coveted Saltalamacchia for a while.

Texas Rangers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia
BoSox add pinch of Salt

Salty's power hasn't developed the way many expected, and his bat has been a liability in the majors. Perhaps a change of scenery will help. At Triple-A Pawtucket, he hasn't experienced any of the troubles he had throwing while with the Texas Rangers organization.

Victor Martinez, Lowell and, perhaps, Carlos Delgado will affect Salty's PT. But V-Mart is a free agent after this season; Boston likely acquired him with an eye toward the future. Keeper players can take note.

Pitchers

Brad Mills, SP, Toronto Blue Jays

Jesse Litsch (hip) is out for the season, and Mills is the immediate beneficiary. Mills was dazzling (seven innings, two hits, no runs) in his debut, a spot effort against the Baltimore Orioles two weeks ago. In his return, this past weekend, he yielded five hits and five runs in four frames.

The southpaw's success is tied to his ability to deceive the opposition. His stuff is better than average, but it isn't extraordinary. Mills runs into trouble because of walks (seven in his 11 major league innings) and has posted mediocre numbers at the Triple-A level. His K/9 has dropped as he has risen.

Mills may have the ability to pitch in the bigs, but he has a steep learning curve to overcome before he'll be a consistent fantasy contributor. He faces the Boston Red Sox tomorrow. Stay tuned.
