In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Mound meetings

• Axford not happy with free passes

  Not a great first night for the John Axford-Trevor Hoffman timeshare. Both Milwaukee Brewers arms fouled up their chances - Axford for the save in the ninth (two walks, RBI groundout), and Hoffman to keep the game tied in the 10th (three runs scored on three hits and two walks for the loss).
  For what it's worth, manager Ken Macha wrote off Axford's pair of free passes as the opponents staying patient. Axford insisted the command issues had nothing to do with having his solo closer tag stripped. Either way, this remains a saves guessing game, especially since both pitched on the same night.
• Aaron Heilman tap-danced around three one-out singles to strand the bases loaded for an Arizona Diamondbacks save.
  Sam Demel, who set up Heilman with a perfect eighth, looks like the next in line for as long as Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) is sidelined, but Heilman has probably done enough to hold him off. The D-backs have been comfortable using Heilman on five of the last six days, so it seems as though they trust him.
