Chris Heisey, OF, Cincinnati Reds

Heisey doin'? Could play more

With Drew Stubbs mired in a 1-for-37 slump, Dusty Baker plans to give Heisey more playing time. Heisey owned the profile of an overachiever in the minors, but he hit - .296 batting average, with a .459 slugging percentage and a few seasons of 20-plus stolen bases, on the farm.

In 324 at-bats with Triple-A Louisville, the 25-year-old has batted just .269 but slugged .457. Despite his .292-7-10 showing in 89 at-bats with the Reds, he has a below-average BA profile. Baker alluded to as much when he said how selective he has been with Heisey's PT.

Still, Heisey is a gamer, and he can contribute in a few counting cats. Don't count him out.

Pitchers

Thomas Diamond, SP, Chicago Cubs

Diamond, 27, took a long path that involved Tommy John surgery in 2007 to arrive at his major league debut. He was once a top prospect with the Texas Rangers, but he couldn't get a handle on free passes - almost 5.00 BB/9 in five years before the Cubs claimed him at the end of last season.

In 2010, he has posted a 3.16 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 8.64 K/9 and 3.82 BB/9 with Triple-A Iowa. That last figure is worrisome, but it represents marked improvement for the hard-throwing right-hander.

There's potential here, but don't throw it in your lineup right away.

Sean West, SP, Florida Marlins

Florida called up West, a southpaw and formerly one of its top prospects, to replace Alex Sanabia. West, 6-foot-8 and 260 pounds, used to draw comparisons to Randy Johnson.

The potentially devastating slider and K rate say maybe, but he needs to follow the Unit's path to BB/9 harnessing. This year, at Triple-A New Orleans, he has a 3.12 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Per nine, he has walked 2.97 and fanned 7.18.

Despite West's improvement, his control rate began to dip in his last five starts. His big league numbers (4.79 ERA, 1.54 WHIP in 20 starts) beg you to wait and see. He has upside and a chance to claim a rotation spot, though.
