In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Mound meetings

  • St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Franklin has been battling a sinus infection for several days. Franklin wouldn't pin the blame on it for his disappointing Saturday appearance. Oh, and manager Tony La Russa wanted to him avoid using him Sunday, but only because Franklin had worked or warmed up for four straight days.

Cincinnati Reds closer Francisco Cordero gave up a tying home run in the ninth yesterday, and he then proceeded to put two runners on in the 10th inning. His replacement, Daniel Herrera, allowed those two runs to score before giving way to Jordan Smith, who recorded the final two outs for his first career save.
Nothing changes with Cordero's job security, but he might not be available today after throwing 33 pitches yesterday.
  • The Washington Nationals' Matt Capps worked around some trouble yesterday. The 26-year-old gave up two singles and put runners at the corners with one out before striking out the final two batters. It was Capps' 21st save of the year, but his first chance since June 9.
