Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat: AL | NLFantasy baseball closer depth charts: AL | NLIn fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture. Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves. Key
Philadelphia PhilliesCloser: Brad Lidge Understudy: Jose Contreras Disabled list: Ryan Madson (toe) Lidge (elbow) wasn't available Monday because of some stiffness in his right elbow. Yes, the one that was surgically repaired this offseason and forced him to the DL for April. Lidge was told it's nothing out of the ordinary, and the Phils wanted to stay away from him after he pitched Sunday. Lidge should be available today.
Contreras was manager Charlie Manuel's pick in the ninth last night in a non-save situation. His successor status makes him at least deep mixed-worthy; those looking for saves everywhere can never be too proactive, especially considering Lidge's recent injury history. However, Contreras has now pitched three days in a row - his availability today might be in question. Not that it should matter with Roy Halladay on the mound. Job security score: 3 Health score: 4 Colorado RockiesCloser: Committee Understudy: Manuel Corpas, Franklin Morales Disabled list: Huston Street (shoulder) It wasn't a pretty outing for the Corpas last night. He gave up four runs on two hits, one intentional walk, one hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch after entering a tied affair. Manager Jim Tracy felt Corpas was "overthrowing." The righty threw just 17 of his 32 pitches for strikes. Despite that, he should remain the top choice for saves given Morales' left shoulder inflammation. Morales isn't expected to need an MRI, and he might not be out long, but it should solidify Corpas' role in the ninth for the immediate future. Stability could return in a couple of weeks, too. Street will make five rehab appearances between this Thursday and Saturday, May 22. If he has no setbacks, he could return. That likely would put an end to Morales' mixed value, though Corpas could be retained in deep mixed. Job security score: N/A Health score: 5 Mound meetings
