In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Mound meetings

  • Cleveland Indians RP Kerry Wood
    Wood polished in Akron
Chris Perez blew it for the Cleveland Indians yesterday. He also had some help from shortstop Luis Valbuena, who committed two errors in the ninth. His first one - a misplay on a groundball with two outs - kept the inning alive for Adam Lind to hit a go-ahead two-run shot. Perez had entered in the eighth inning, though, striking out the final two batters in that frame.
In the minors, Kerry Wood (back) is awaiting his next move after an improved rehab outing for Double-A Akron. He struck out two and didn't allow any runs in one inning. It was his final rehab appearance with the Akron outfit; he'll either head to Triple-A or back to the bigs next.
  • The New York Yankees' Alfredo Aceves was able to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a save after David Robertson and Boone Logan created a chance for him. A big lead meant Mariano Rivera (side) wasn't needed to start the ninth, though the lead dwindled before Aceves stepped in; manager Joe Girardi wanted to give Rivera an extra couple of days off, anyway.
New York has an important series this weekend at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. Mo should be back for that.
  • A dark horse for saves on the Baltimore Orioles has returned: Koji Uehara (hamstring) was activated from the DL today. He was a closer in Japan (32 saves in '07 with the Yomiuri Giants), and though this appears Alfredo Simon's interim job to lose, Uehara is a name to file away in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.
Cla Meredith is one other to file away. The former San Diego Padre hasn't allowed a run since April 11 (six IP), and manager Dave Trembley said he has "confidence to bring him in against anybody at any time."
