• Despite offering a nail-biter, Chad Qualls held up the Arizona Diamondbacks' confidence with a save Monday. He entered with a three-run advantage, with 32 pitches, fighting through a leadoff walk and a pair of two-out singles - which brought in a run - by striking out the side.
  Qualls will probably still have some rough patches in the near future, but count on Arizona sticking with him as long as he slams the door. His velocity has improved, and another key will be increasing his first-strike percentage (a meager 55.6).
• Brad Lidge (elbow, knee) had his rehab appearance rained out Monday but will pitch for the Philadelphia Phillies' Double-A Reading Tuesday. Check out yesterday's report for more on how he is faring during his recovery.
